The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) has taken delivery of its first V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, reports Bell-Boeing, the manufacturer.
The aircraft was handed over during a ceremony at Camp Kisarazu in the central Chiba prefecture on July 10, said a release from Bell Textron.
The V-22 is in a special configuration with a Japanese-specific communication system.
Japan is the first non-U.S. operator of the aircraft. It has ordered 17 Block C Ospreys.
